First Steps Together welcomes first care home resident

4 Feb 2026

This week, we proudly welcomed the first resident into the first of six care homes set to open, marking a landmark moment for First Steps Together.

Due to safeguarding reasons, we are unable to disclose the young person’s name, details or the specific care home they have moved into.

Natalie Ogden, Group Strategic Lead, said: "The arrival of this young person marks a significant milestone for First Steps Together Care Services. We are looking forward to providing not only nurture and support, but a place they can truly call home."

In the days leading up to the move, staff worked tirelessly to ensure everything was in place for their arrival. Final inductions were completed, every room was checked and prepared and a personalised welcome basket was thoughtfully put together.

Their bedroom was made to feel warm, homely and familiar and the whole house was cleaned, organised and stocked with fresh food ready for their first day.

The transition into the home included two overnight stays, one alongside a familiar caregiver and one independently. Although understandably daunting, both visits were handled with great resilience.

A particularly meaningful moment unfolded when the young person chose to sit and share an evening meal during the most recent visit, something that didn’t feel possible during the first introduction.

This small but significant step shows the positive relationships already beginning to develop.

Our dedicated staff team is fully trained in key areas such as de‑escalation, safeguarding, Prevent, data protection and a wide range of therapeutic and trauma‑informed approaches to ensure the highest standard of care.

Reflecting on future growth, Natalie added: "Our team is committed to working openly and collaboratively with placing authorities, families, education providers, health professionals and other partner agencies."

"We believe that the best possible outcomes for each young person can only be achieved through strong partnership and a shared commitment to their wellbeing and future."

Further details about our care homes will be shared over the coming months, including updates on the development of our dedicated Care Services website.
