About us

First Steps Together is a rapidly expanding family of specialist schools, care homes and transport services across the North West, built around one clear mission: helping young people grow, thrive and fulfil their potential.

 

We believe every learner deserves an environment where they are understood, supported and celebrated for who they are and we work every day to make that a reality.

Our schools provide personalised education for young people with a wide range of additional needs, combining evidence‑based teaching, therapeutic support and nurturing relationships. No two learners are alike, so we tailor every aspect of their experience, from curriculum design to emotional support. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to keeping our young people at the heart of every decision, ensuring each school feels warm, welcoming and deeply rooted in individual needs.

Alongside this, we are opening six new specialist care homes designed to offer safe, stable and therapeutic environments. Our first young person arrives in February, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our residential provision. Each home is built on consistency, compassion and skilled practice. We have designed them to become places where young people can heal, develop and move towards brighter futures with confidence and security.

We also created our own transport service after recognising how poorly traditional options serve learners with additional needs. Instead of long, isolated taxi journeys, our minibuses provide calm, structured and familiar experiences that support emotional regulation and wellbeing. Every vehicle includes a trained Passenger Assistant, offering expertise far beyond an escort role and ensuring that each journey is positive, predictable and fully centred around the young person.
